I am very fortunate to have as one of my patients someone that I watched on tv as a child. Rex Trailer had his Boston based childrens television show Boomtown airing from 1956-1974. Yes, he gave me permission to talk about him on my website. Even in his mid 80's, he comes wearing his cowboy boots and hat.
Today he gave me a lesson on the origin of the Ten Gallon Hat. Telling me this is a misnomer and has nothing to do with the volume of water a hat can hold. Apparently the term came from the Spanish coin the Galleon. These coins were drilled with holes and cowboys would stitch ten of them to the outside of the hat..thus the 10 Galleon Hat.
Not really sure of the accuracy of this story and it doesn't matter to me at all. I just enjoy hearing tales such as these from patients.
Thanks Rex..It is a pleasure having you as one of my patients.
