Celebrity Goes Through Foot Surgery

Marcia Gay HardenAccording to Contactmusic.com, celebrity Marcia Gay Harden went through foot surgery. The actress replaced Rosemarie DeWitt in the show The Newsroom, and co-star Jane Fonda says Harden has been going through foot issues during shoots. Fonda revealed on her blog that Harden underwent an operation, and even posted a picture of her wearing a smart dress with soft shoes, after her surgery.

It is important to carefully consider the types of footwear needed after foot surgery is completed, like Harden. If you are experiencing foot or ankle pain and are considering surgery, a podiatrist like Dr. Bryant Tarr of Sudbury & Westford Podiatry can evaluate your injury and provide you with the footwear options post surgery.

Choosing the right shoes during post-operative surgery

Finding the right shoes to wear after surgery is vital during the recovery process. Many don’t know what to do after surgery, therefore consulting a podiatrist, is important. This way you will know what to wear without the worries.

Surgeries are often performed on patients with bone deformities or other illnesses that can’t be treated through traditional means. This is usually the final decision one would take if no other option is available. After surgery is completed, allowing yourself the proper recovery time is essential.

Conditions Which Require Surgery

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome - bunions which deform the large toe bones and cannot be corrected with other methods.

Ligament tears - require surgery to alleviate pain and restore mobility.

The Right Footwear

Orthopedic shoes – Shoes that offer a rubber sole to prevent any possibility of slipping while foot related balance and support is reduced post-surgery. These shoes are only meant to be worn post-surgery, and not all the time.

Wider and large heel – These shoes come with a raised heel and have the same orthopedic functions. Although very effective, they can run a bit more expensive if not covered by insurance.

Athletic shoes – Some people don’t need special footwear and settle for comfortable athletic shoes. These offer support of the feet similar to orthopedic shoes. A wider toe box and firmer heel tend to be the right shoes for post-surgery.
