Kevin Korenthal, a cyclist who lost both of his legs during a car vs. cyclist collision last December, is now lending others a helping hand in the Million Dollar Challenge’s 620 mile journey. The crash that Korenthal was in this past winter left him unable to walk let alone ride a bike. Through the help of his doctors at the foot rehabilitation center, the cyclist has gained enough confidence to compete again in a race.
With an amputated left leg that he is currently wearing a prosthetic on, Korenthal is looking forward to the race and helping others reach the finish line. "If my participation in this extraordinary event can raise just a few extra thousand dollars for those heroes, then all of the hard work and pain that will go into preparing for this event will have been worth it,” he said. Money from the Million Dollar Challenge Race will be donated to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, to help disabled athletes get back on their feet.
A podiatrist like Dr. Bryant Tarr of Sudbury & Westford Podiatry understands the complications a foot injury can have on one’s health. Dr. Tarr will guide patients in the right direction and provide you with the appropriate treatment options.
Foot Rehabilitation for Athletes
Injured athletes are always looking for better, faster ways to aid their recovery and get back to the sport they love. Rehabbing an injury is just as serious as the injury itself, and going through the motions of physical therapy or rehabilitation is a necessary process to keeping that injury at bay.
Sports Therapist or Physical Therapist?
If an athlete gets a foot injury, it is essential to receive foot rehabilitation to ensure proper healing. Sports therapists are more focused on athletic-related injuries than general physical therapists. It is important for an athlete to become healed properly because if they attempt to get back into their game before they are physically well, they could re-aggravate the original injury or even suffer a new one due to their weakened state.
Physical Therapy Gives Hope
Physical therapy helps to keep athletes as active as they are physically capable, which will get them ready to return to the field once their feet become healed. Physical therapy often gives hope to athletes. It is best to seek out rehabilitation as soon as possible so there are better chances for a full recovery, no matter how severe or minor the injury is.
